Lac des Vernes

Lac des Vernes is the only body of water entirely within the canton of Geneva. Built in 2017 in Meyrin, this lake is a rainwater retention basin and is used to manage the flooding of the Nant d'Avril stream.

The lake is surrounded by picturesque paths and relaxation areas, providing an ideal setting for strolling and enjoying nature. Although swimming is not permitted, While swimming is not permitted, the curious can enjoy the pontoons, observation points and even an educational trail. As well as its recreational value, the Lac des Vernes helps to protect the environment by preventing overloading of wastewater treatment plants and limiting erosion of the nearby stream. With its rich biodiversity and ecological rainwater management, the lake is a veritable oasis in the heart of the city.
