◆ Conference – Lights in the night: making the invisible visible and listening to bats
Sat, Sep 2, 2023, 8 – 9:30 PM
With Pascal Moeschler (biologist, hydrogeologist and head of the Swiss Coordination Center for the Study and Protection of Bats CCO/KOF), Eric Achkar (engineer, President of the Geneva Astronomical Society) and David Bärtschi.
Moderated by Cerise Dumont (researcher for art-werk).
For the past ten years, engineer Eric Achkar and biologist Pascal Moeschler have been exploring various avenues to better protect the night and the starry sky: the invention of "La nuit est belle! "(next edition on September 22), the creation of an emotional and educational eponymous exhibition (at the Geneva Museum in 2018), the creation of a new transdisciplinary science dedicated to the night (noctilogy), and the development of a nomadic conference close to the population in both rural and urban areas (conference given on more than 80 occasions in the greater Geneva area and beyond).
On the occasion of reconnecting.earth, they present their nomadic lecture, adding "outside" and "offbeat" instructions and commentary to reveal the crucial role of culture in the new and exciting dynamics of the anthropo(s)cene. Conditions permitting, the public will also be invited to stargaze and listen to the ultrasonic sounds of bats hunting around the harbor.
