Artist
Christina Hemauer & Roman Keller
Christina Hemauer was born in Zurich in 1973, while Roman Keller was born in Liestal in the canton of Basel-Landschaft in 1969. They live and work in Zurich. Since 2003, the artist duo has been investigating the relationship between culture and the environment in times of climate crisis. Using a variety of media for their exhibitions - including installation, performance, video, sound and photography - they examine the issue of energy from a sustainable perspective, and the avenues that can be explored - or could have been explored - to move away from oil. In 2006, in a manifesto, they announced the era of 'Postpetrolism' and imagined an artistic practice that would develop without fossil fuels. Another of their subjects of study is the colour of the sky, and the influence of human activity on its spectrum.
In recent years, the duo has intensified its cooperation with scientists working in different disciplines, notably by being artists in residence at CERN.
