Luis Camnitzer & Gabo Camnitzer

Luis and Gabo Camnitzer are father and son. Luis Camnitzer was born in Lübeck in 1937 and lives and works in New York. A Uruguayan artist, art critic, educator and theorist of German origin (he lived in Montevideo from 1939 to 1964), Luis Camnitzer was at the forefront of conceptual art in the 1960s. His work deals with subjects such as repression, institutional criticism and social justice.

Gabo Camnitzer was born in 1984 and lives and works in New York. Both an interdisciplinary artist and an educator, he combines strategies of experimental pedagogy and participatory installation. His work focuses on childhood as a space of ideological and material struggle. The two artists are collaborating on the performance piece The International Anthem.
